Añejo Mockingbird

Used to be this place was mostly about music and pop culture, but it's slowly morphed into a launching pad for finding our foster greyhounds new homes. So be it. We love the hounds and are more than happy to use our modest little blog page to reach out and snag some attention for these greyt dogs... Oh, we'll still post the occasional odd music review or rant at the state of the Redskins from time to time, but they'll hafta take a back seat to the dogs 'til further notice

Say Hello To Shy! Say Goodbye To Alli!

Okay, wacky name, nice dog :-)
Shy found his way back into foster care after the family dynamics changed significantly at his former home and he was returned through no fault of his own.

Shy's full name is Shytown Hustle (Chi-Town was apparently unavailable, or so one would assume), so there's where the funky name came from. The good news is that Shy is nothing like his name. Happy and curious would be good places to start to describe him. This handsome fellow (mostly white, w/ brown ears) is 5-yrs-old and is currently shrugging off his displacement with good cheer. Shy is ready to walk into your home right now. He could stand to gain a few pounds - he lost some weight during the changes to the family environment in his former home - other than that, he's fully acclimated to home life. We've only had him for a short time, but we can tell he's going to make someone or some family a super pet. Call Denise and get your application in quickly if you're interested, 'cuz he won't last long here in foster care. Oh, he's small animal friendly, by the way!

And while we're welcoming Shy into our home, we'll also take a minute to say goodbye to Alli, who got adopted last week! Alli will be living in Virginia and will no doubt be impressing eveyrone she meets with her good-natured personality. Here's Alli cooling off on the top step of our pool after running some laps around the yard. She ordered a margarita soon after :-)     Bye, Alli! Much love to you, little girl!

More Alli pics and an update

Thought we'd update Alli's progress for those following along at home. She continues to do very well in adjusting to a home environment. As noted in our original post, we've not crated her at all since she's been here. Although she does have a few moments of mischief - which usually involve shredding plastic grocery bags or the occasional newspaper - those moments can be avoided by keeping items of temptation behind closed doors.
Alli has done steps and has no problems with them. She also has no problems with going potty while leashed, so potential adopters without fenced-in yards whom rely on walks to provide bathroom breaks will have no issues.
We did try a bit of cat-testing, but the results were inconclusive. She was highly interested, but the cat didn't want to stick around long enough (and who could blame him!) for us to see if she'd be aggressive.
Alli is a total sweetheart and she's ready to walk out the door right now and settle into home life. She does not mind crowds or loud noises at all. We walked her around a parking lot in the aftermath of a local high school football game, with car horns blaring and kids shouting and booming their stereos, and she wasn't bothered one bit by the crowd or the noise.
As you can tell by some of the pics, Alli enjoys her rawhides/chewies! Adopters should plan to have several types of chewables on hand for her arrival, as this will cut down on her looking for plastic/paper items to shred.
Please give Denise a shout if you'd like to meet this very happy and engaging little hound with the beautiful brindle markings.
