Añejo Mockingbird

Used to be this place was mostly about music and pop culture, but it's slowly morphed into a launching pad for finding our foster greyhounds new homes. So be it. We love the hounds and are more than happy to use our modest little blog page to reach out and snag some attention for these greyt dogs... Oh, we'll still post the occasional odd music review or rant at the state of the Redskins from time to time, but they'll hafta take a back seat to the dogs 'til further notice

The Bella update

Sorry for the lack of updates on Bella. A few technical issues with my Blogger account caused the delay. I wanted to post some video, but my Blogger account keeps hosing the upload. Grrrrr! Anyhow, Bella is ready to go to her forever home. She's been a wonderful dog and has integrated herself into retirement living easily and with much gusto. She's housebroken, does stairs, has learned to play with stuffies, walks well on the leash, gets along well with kids and also other canines. We think she will be cat-trainable if perhaps not entirely cat-safe. She's never gone after the house feline, but she is extremely interested in her. Bella understands NO! and is usually eager to please. She's a tail wagging dynamo and is extremely friendly.
In short, she's a wonderful dog and should adapt readily to most home situations.

Say Hello To Bella!

That beautifully marked hound laying on our porch used to be called Hallo Blue Hill, but we're calling her Bella. You can call her fantastic, or perhaps awesome, 'cuz she's both. Bella is a 60lb, very calm and happy 3 and a half-year-old who is adjusting to home life very easily. Bella has unusually good bathroom habits - she's not had one accident in the house since she's been here and she's gone to the door and barked several times to let us know it was potty time for her. She's been eating well, sleeping well and getting along with Coastal, the resident hound. Bella is quick to lay down and we've been so impressed with her manners that we haven't even bothered to use the kennel. That's right, she's earned our trust so quickly that we've allowed her free reign of the house while we're at work. Bella likes the kids and hasn't responded negatively towards any other dogs she's seen so far. She's yet to bother the resident feline, so she may be cat safe. We'll do more testing on that front later and post the results in a few days. Bella has done some steps, and while a bit hesitant at first, she managed to go up and down fairly well, even if the whole episode was a bit gawky. She'll get the hang of them as she gets some more practice. She's also done pretty well on the leash, but hasn't shown an inclination to go potty while tethered as of yet.
She's also pretty good at wagging that tail of hers - which she keeps curled up in the air while she walks - which'll give ya a pretty good thwack if you're not ready for it :-) She's also an affectionate soul with a penchant for wanting to have her belly rubbed. This girl is a charmer and should readily adapt into almost any household. If you'd like to be on the receiving end of some affectionate tail wagging and are easily induced to giving belly rubs, Bella may be your girl. Give Denise a shout if you'd like to meet this gorgeous, happy girl.
