Añejo Mockingbird

Used to be this place was mostly about music and pop culture, but it's slowly morphed into a launching pad for finding our foster greyhounds new homes. So be it. We love the hounds and are more than happy to use our modest little blog page to reach out and snag some attention for these greyt dogs... Oh, we'll still post the occasional odd music review or rant at the state of the Redskins from time to time, but they'll hafta take a back seat to the dogs 'til further notice

Quatro = Gregarious

The Dictionary defines gregarious as: Seeking and enjoying the company of others; sociable. It's a perfect description of Quatro. This handsome boy goes out of his way to be a social butterfly - there's no one Quatro doesn't like. Quatro treats life like one big adventure; nothing phases him and every new place to go and every new situation is looked upon as a chance for excitement. Quatro has no fear of anything as far as we can tell. Be it noises, storms, horns, loud trucks, car rides, other dogs, whatever, he takes it all in stride. Quatro was with us yesterday for Greyhounds In Gettysburg and was an absolute hit with everyone whom he had contact with. He's a constant tail-wagger and an unflinching leaner which means he's a perfect Meet -n- Greet dog. Quatro has had no problems with changing environments, indeed, he just shrugs it off and looks forward to newer and possibly greater adventures.
So, with all that acclaim, you're probably asking yourself why he's still available, right? Well, Quatro has been through a long patch of bad luck due to things not in his control. Folks, this is one of the nicest greyhounds you'll ever come across and will absolutely make a fabulous companion animal for a lucky family that can meet his two needs.
1. No small animals in the home - no cats, rabbits, or any other furry creatures that run loose. Quatro has an extremely high prey drive and will go after anything small and furry that crosses his path.
2. Quatro really should go into a home with another dog to pal around with during the day. Alternately, he should go to a home where someone will home most of the time. Quatro can be very vocal when bored and alone. We've not seen any indications of destructive behavior, but he will bark loudly when bored. Loudly. Did we mention loudly? There you have it, loudly.

Quatro loves to go for walks on the leash and he also likes to jog, so anyone looking for a running/walking companion should give him some consideration if you can meet the above requirements. Quatro also does well with kids and likes to play with our collection of stuffies.
In short, a great dog and the very definition of Gregarious!

Hello Quatro!

After a short hound hiatus, we're back, and we've engineered a trade!  In NFL parlance (and in honor of the upcoming NFL draft), Quatro was traded for 2 first round picks and a hound to be named later :-) You know how it is, the star player with an expiring contract and lots of competition for the job decides he has an itch that can't quite be scratched in his current clubhouse and demands a huge salary increase or a trade elsewhere... So after approval from the league office, we've made a trade with Halfway Home Hounds for the irrepressible Quatro! Here he is lounging in his new clubhouse:

  Ahhhh... the pampered life of a superstar athlete.

All kidding aside, Quatro really is a superstar dog. He's super friendly, super easy-going, and is a real love bug. Seriously, he's one of the most engaging hounds we've had the pleasure to come across in our long time being around these great dogs. He wants nothing more than hang out with his people - be that on the couch with you while watching TV or sleeping with you in bed, if you'll let him. Quatro listens really well, is totally housebroken, loves to go for walks on the leash, amuses himself (and you) while playing with stuffies and other toys. Quatro would be great as a running companion. I've jogged with him on the leash and he had no issues during a 2 mile run. So if you're wondering why a great dog like this remains un-adopted, well, sometimes even the best players go through slumps where things just don't seem to go their way no matter how hard they try. Quatro has simply had some bad luck and the stars have not been willing to align themselves for him. We're trying to change that and kick those stars back into alignment on his behalf.
Quatro's need are simple - he needs to find a forever-home that has another canine companion to hang out with, or a forever-home where a member of the family is home with him most of the time. Quatro tends to get vocal when left alone with no one to pal around with, so he can't really be placed where he'll be home alone all day. Also, and this is very important: Quatro cannot go to a home with small animals! He is simply not small-animal safe! If you can meet those requirements and would like to welcome a greyt, greyt hound into your home, give Denise a shout and make arrangements to meet this very happy, very friendly hound. If you can give give him the superstar treatment in your clubhouse, we'll give him his unconditional release - no trades, no draft picks, no players to be named later :-)
